What better way to relax on a sunny afternoon, or a cold misty afternoon than to take a leisurely stroll through these beautiful Californian Redwood trees, some of which reach an amazing 55 meters high. We have visited in both weather conditions so cold and wet we rugged up and took umbrellas, and so hot we wore tee-shirt, shorts and lathers of sunscreen. Both conditions equally beautiful, so do not let the weather influence your decision to visit. After you have taken in the sheer magnificence of these straight lined towering giants and explored the Dragon nests that are scattered throughout the forest, some of which are large enough to fit in a whole family of would be dragons, walk to the bottom of the forest to find the pristine waters of the Yarra River running proudly.
On our last visit we walked to the bottom of the forest and along the river, we ended up doing a loop which took us through an older and less pristine forest which was still majestic and an amazing place for exploring.
How did we get there? It is super easy to get to and not far out of the small sleepy town of Warburton, which is a great place to stop for lunch on the way. As you drive out of Warburton drive for about 5 minutes and keep an eye out for a clear sign on your left Cement Creek Road. Now this is a narrow yet newly maintained dirt road which crosses over the Yarra River on a single lane bridge, travel slowly and cautiously. There is new and fantastic car park which runs parallel to the Redwood Forest for about 500 meters, yes that many car parks are necessary as did I possibly fail to mention that the forest can get extremely busy. Do not let this deter you I assure you there is plenty of forest for everyone to enjoy.
