Mt Oberon - Wilsons Promontory

Updated: Apr 1, 2019

Looking down at Tidal River from the top of Mt Oberon.

Our journey to the top of Mount Oberon in Wilsons Promontory started at Tidal River where we left our car and caught the free shuttle bus to the Telegraph Saddle car park, then the walking begins. Getting to Tidal River is a 3 hour drive from Melbourne. We walked along a gravel track that winds around the mountain for about 3.4km to the top. There are no amenities at the top so make sure you use the toilet at Tidal River before you board the bus. Take plenty of water with you and possibly a snack or two as there are no taps at the top.

This is not a hard walk, obviously it is an incline, ok some parts are a little steep but each time we have been there are all sorts of different people doing it. The last stretch of the walk is up narrow stairs, this is when you begin to get glimpses of the amazing view that is soon to come.

Once you are at the top WOW spectacular 360 degrees of some of the most amazing views you could see. Thoughts of any pain you may have had walking up the mountain are long gone as soon as you see the clear blue waters beneath you.

There is not just one vantage point once you are at the top you can go to either side or even go a little further along the top but please don't go to close to the edge its an incredibly long way down.
