Bruno’s Art and Sculpture Garden

Ok, it was quite a few years ago that the dynamic duo visited this garden which is more fun than an amusement park, but it’s still so embedded in my mind that it feels like yesterday. I remember clearly arriving at the entrance to the garden and being graciously greeted by a colourful character who turned out to be Bruno himself. He was a lovely man and welcomed us into his garden. He told us his interesting story of how he had moved to Marysville from Europe to create his sculpture garden amongst the luscious forest, he also has a gallery on the property which is well worth a look. Located on Falls Road, Marysville Bruno’s is extremely easy to locate and after you have spent the morning here you can continue onto Stevenson’s Falls which is just up the road. Sadly on the 7th of February 2009, devastation hit the small sleepy town of Marysville when the fires of Black Saturday came through and Bruno’s amazing work was destroyed.

As you can see from this photo above, Bruno’s beautiful work that he had poured his heart and soul into, was crushed, crumbled and burnt in this devastating fire. Luckily for us as opposed to moving on and starting somewhere else, Bruno chose to stay in Marysville and rebuild not only his home but also his magical garden.

Today we are able to enjoy what has grown from Bruno’s passion for art and wonder through his beautifully restored garden. You can see from the picture above that the work that could be resuscitated and bought back to life has been, and is looking bright shiny and new. There are many pictures of how the sculptures looked after the flames tried to take them from Bruno, and next to them is the sculptures that Bruno has risen from the ashes. It’s a sad feeling seeing the devastation but that is overshadowed by the delight felt by seeing that sculptures as they are today.

The Lady of Shalot lives on once more to sit proudly in her boat, in a setting that anyone would happily spend eternity.

I am not going to spoil the fun for others and put all the photos I took into this blog, as I really want everyone to experience this real life wonderland for themselves. I know that I really found my inner child when I was here, and whilst money doesn’t buy happiness the $10.00 entry fee to Bruno’s Art and Sculpture Garden certainly will. I will leave you with a tip, don’t just look at the sculptures that are in plain sight in front of you look up in the trees, right down low and in places you wouldn’t expect the sculptures to be. They are hidden everywhere. I guarantee you will leave here with a giant smile on your face and feeling all the more happier for having been there.
