Blue Lotus Water Garden

We have visited the the Blue Lotus Water Garden at the beginning, end and middle of it's season which runs from late December to late April annually and is open 10am - 5pm 7 days. They are located approximately 90 minutes from Melbourne at 2628 Warburton Hwy, Yarra Junction. We have enjoyed our visits each time and its an ever changing garden with something new to look at each time. We did however feel that the start of the season is possibly the best time to go to see the lilies at their best.

There is a large variety of different lilies to see, all of which are equally stunning showing off their natural beauty in an array of vibrant colours. With approximately 3km worth of walking tracks you really need to wear your most comfortable shoes (don't worry what they look like I assure you no one is looking at your feet), in summer wear sunscreen a hat and your sunnies. In winter rug up it gets cold out there, don't panic if you forget to bring your umbrella they have plenty at the front door they are more than happy to share, these can also be used in the warmer months to shield yourself from the hot sun.

There is both a cafe and kiosk that serve drinks, ice creams and main meals, if you do not want to take advantage of the bbq's that are there to use. Personally I cannot go past the Lotus Root Chips which are seasoned lightly with lemon and herbs, they also come with a delicious home-made Lotus Flower Honey dipping sauce unbelievably amazing flavours that I strongly suggest you try for yourself.

There is a small charge to visit the gardens $18.00 for an adult, $16 for concession card holders and students, Free for kids 0-15 but I love the place so much I cannot go past the $40 season pass, that's right for $40 (or $18 if your a Yarra Valley resident) you an go as many times as you like during one season. I assure you I got one and have taken full advantage of it.

The garden has a very tropical feel throughout, and there really is something to look at for everyone. I have to secretly admit that I love the fairy garden, it is a highlight for my imagination to wander through, on our last visit we even saw the fairy taking a rest from her face painting and story telling time to relax on the bridge.

The shady native river walk is a lovely place to give your feet a rest and take advantage of the peaceful surroundings, with nothing but the sounds of the flowing river and the sweet songs of the local birds.
